Start your adventure from Kayalgram in Kaipuram, Muhamma, a quiet lakeside village nestled beside the majestic Vembanad Lake. From here, you’ll set out on a tranquil 3.5 to 4-hour guided tour—paddling toward Pathiramanal Island, a pristine bird sanctuary floating amidst the vast backwaters.

Whether you choose to kayak or SUP, the journey offers a front-row seat to life on Kerala’s largest lake. Early morning tours unfold with a golden sunrise and mirrored waters, while late afternoon slots treat you to a 360° view of painted skies as the sun dips behind distant palms.

Along the route, pass by Chinese fishing nets gracefully suspended over the water, and see clam harvesters scooping up these backwater delicacies from dugout canoes. The region is also home to the Thanneermukkom Bund, a unique man-made barrier that separates brackish water from fresh and plays a crucial role in local agriculture and fisheries.

Once at Pathiramanal—meaning “Sands of Midnight”—you’ll disembark briefly for a gentle nature walk under a canopy of trees. The island is home to over numerous species of birds, including whiskered terns, darters, egrets, cormorants, and colorful migratory visitors. It’s a peaceful haven for bird lovers and photographers alike.

Your guide will share the ecological stories of the lake—its fisheries, flora, and fragile balance with the seasons. After light refreshments and hydration, we’ll begin our paddle back toward Kaipuram, possibly choosing a slightly different return route based on wind and current conditions.
